Trinity 2 - 0 Addiscombe

A fantastic team performance saw Trinity take all three points against the fifth placed opposition in the late start game at Royal Russell on Saturday.

This was a big pitch so the team talk before hand was all about staying tight in the midfield and not allowing the game to get stretched. Massive credit to Knott, Gilbert, Austin, Gonzales and the very welcome-returning Porter as this is exactly how the game was played.

Addiscombe had the best of the initial skirmishes. However Abbott making a second debut 20+ years after his last game was rock solid at right back. Hellier and Fairchild remained solid in the middle of the back four with Ferrigan not just nullifying the right wing threat but also using his skills to start many an attack.

Trinity got properly in to the game and the last 25 minutes of the half were theirs. Porter was having a stormer on the left and linked up well with Gilbert, Skinner and Lang. However, for the time being, the final ball wasn’t quite there. That is until Gilbert crossed to Lang who saw the keeper pull off a fine diving save. At the other end Addiscombe were left with the break as their only option. However, there was only one real scare as the few shots were was dealt wth consummately by Aston in goal.

It was a buoyant Trinity that emereged after half time knowing this game was there for the taking. Two minutes in and Porter won us a short corner. It proved to be a training ground routine. Gilbert out to Fairchild who fired it back towards the onrushing Gilbert who neatly swept the ball home.

This stirred Addiscombe who proceeded to have the best of the next 20 minutes or so. Howevcr Trinity held firm. Knott was superbly marshalling their attacking midfielder, Abbott and Ferrigan were tackling for their lives and then turning defence back into attack. Addiscombe gained a string of short corners but were restricted to very few clear chances due to great Trinity defendng. When the shot or deflection did come, Aston was on hand to clear the danger.

At the other end, Trinity showed them how it should be done. A well won short was clinically dispatched into the bottom corner by Fairchild. Lang had a great chance to make it 3-0 following a strong run from the half way line, the Keeper was rounded only for the covering defender to make a great intervention.

Trinity were full of running to the end to keep the 2-0 scoreline as the final whistle blew. A great team effort for which the 13 men were awarded MoM. With special mention the Porter and Gilbert.
