“We get knocked down, we get up again” so said seminal anarchy band
Chumbawumba in 1997. These words could have been written for Trinity 3rd XI 2018. After a serious drubbing in Match 1, agreement was reached that the League started against Leatherhead and the apocalyptic events of Battersea Park Sept 29th, would not be mentioned again.
That said, a slow start did not bode well. Leatherhead had by far the most possession and shots on goal in a first half that saw Trinity happy to go in goalless at the break. Much was owed to Lagerberg and the Trinity defence to still be in the game.
Half time we agreed the effort would be upped and the game played in Leatherheads half as opposed to ours. A great performance ensued. As a team Trinity squeezed up, started to exchange short sharp passes and the oppo were put firmly on the back foot. Just reward followed with a smart short corner strike from the Skipper. Leatherhead were confined to a series of sorties on the Trinity goal. Hellier made a smart stop from a short corner to keep us level. However against the run of the play Leatherhead sneaked equaliser. This could have put Trinity back on the back foot, but they were having none of it. Fullbacks Pal and Ferrigan continued to probe down the wings ably supported by Knott and Jewiss in the middle. Just reward was served 5 minutes from time. Ollie Quelch showed great skill to recycle a short corner and Mids were rightly awarded a flick following a goal line block from a Leatherhead defender. Time for ice man Knott to step up and dispatch into the… (actually I won’t say exactly where in case this goes viral)…goal!!
Onwards and upwards!
