Lots of Laughs at the Mids Comedy Night

Comedy Night 2015

Paul Duncan McGarrity entertains the crowd

Our first TSSSC Comedy Night organised by the TMW Hockey Club saw a good audience entertained by an evening of varied and innovative stand-up provided by an eclectic mix of four comedians, hosted by the formidable Debra Jane Appleby. Paul Rickets had a neat line in self-deprecating humour, Don Biswas, with an funny and interesting slant on dyspraxia and politics, and Paul Duncan McGarrity, the laughing archaeologist, all had the crowd laughing from the start. The night was completed with an excellent set from Ronnie Golden; a man who involved the older members with jokes about glucosamine and a song penned with Barry Cryer about smoking that managed to get a rhyme out of Consulates(just).

The audience were ably fed beforehand by Megan Brown, sound and lighting was courtesy of Neil Pepper and the show was produced by Dave Sellman. Thanks to all the people who made it such a successful evening. Look out for the next comedy night in 2016.

At 2.00 p.m. on Sunday, 6th September 2015, family (his sister and her family from Canada) and friends will gather on the Blacksmiths Hill side of the the TMWA club ground to put Alan Garth’s ashes to rest and to plant a tree (the fourth here) in his memory.

This will be followed by a “gathering” in the Clubhouse for a few drinks and refreshments whilst recounting wonderful memories of Alan’s contributions to our lives.  Appropriate memorabilia would be gratefully received on the day. It would be helpful if you could let David Jackman know if you plan to attend so he can organize the refreshments – david@jackman49.freeserve.co.uk.

Annual Club Dinner

The end of the season means it is time for our annual dinner. Time to celebrate, reminisce, commiserate and generally indulge in any way you choose! The Hockey Club Dinner, will be held on Friday 25th April, at the club, starting at 7.30. The bar will open at 7.00 pm.

This year’s Guest of Honour is somebody well known to the senior players, Mr Andy Bordass. Andy starred in the 1st XI for many years and was club captain following on from Rob Adams. He featured in many of our triumphs and was a notable member of the squad which won our league, the Surrey Cup and the HA Vase in that memorable season. As you know it was intended that he be our Guest last year but an unfortunate road accident prevented it.

Anne Whiting and her crew will be serving a five course dinner, featuring again the popular classic, Lamb Shank, for the main course, along with a pate starter and a chocolate dessert. As well as a few entertaining speeches we will be presenting the awards for the team Players of the Year, the leading goal scorer, and other marks of achievement or contribution to the club.

The price of this wonderful evening remains a mere £28 per head, the same as last two years. To encourage the younger members there is again a special price of £20 each for anyone still at school.

The supper is not just for current players. We really hope to see EVERYONE who has played this season but also the ladies, parents, ex-players and any other friends who would like to join us.

Please don’t spend thinking up excuses why you don’t want to come and sign up now by replying to me as soon as possible to book your place, please e-mail me at richardheath@ntlworld.com telling me (a) how many places you need (b) whether any of them require vegetarian meals (c) whether any are under 18.
